RE: Grading Midterms and
Quizzes, etc.
RE: Grading Midterms and
Quizzes, etc.
- The
semester is coming to a conclusion and all homeworks with due dates are
assigned on the Web.
- Be
aware that we are covering only parts (as assigned) of Chapters 8, 9 &
10 (cycles).
- Several
of you were inquiring about details of grading policy and your standing in
the class. You may check your available current percentages and class
averages with Sharad, our TA. The grading policy will be as declared in our
syllabus: 20% homework, 30% midterms (including quizzes), and 50% final. The
30% midterms and quizzes, will be further internally prorated as follows:
Midterm-1is 40% (20% in-class and 20% take-home, which is effectively 50:50
ratio); Quiz-1 is 20% (15% in-class and 5% take-home, which is effectively
75:25 ratio); and Midterm-2 is 40%. If you have any question, please clarify
it with Sharad (our TA) or me.
- Theoretically,
any student and the whole class could get any average it earns (A, B, C, all
passing, etc.). However, in the case of insufficient performance (D:60+%;
C:70+%; B:80+%; A:90+%), the grades will be normalized, and if you are above
average, you should not be concerned for completing the course, and if you
are in the lowest 25% of the class, you should be concerned. Luckily, the
final exam share is the largest and all of you have a chance to improve your
grade if you prepare for the final well. So get involved, be optimistic and
do your best!
Wish
you a healthy and productive semester!
