Core Competencies

 

COMS 100 - Fundamentals of Oral Communication Credits: 3

ENGL 103 - Rhetoric and Composition I Credits: 3

ENGL 104 - Rhetoric and Composition II Credits: 3

ENGL 105 - Rhetoric and Composition Credits: 3

MATH 155 - Trigonometry and Elementary Functions Credits: 3

MATH 229 - Calculus I Credits: 4

MATH 229 may count toward both the mathematics core competency requirement and the sciences and mathematics area requirement in distributive studies if a grade of C or better is earned. If a grade of D is earned, the course will count only toward the sciences and mathematics area requirement.  Note: all Industrial Management and Technology students must obtain a C or better in Math 155.

 

 

General Education Course Titles

 

Humanities and the Arts (9-12)

 

Students must earn from 9 to 12 semester hours in the humanities and the arts area with at least one course taken in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and at least one course taken in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, with no more than 6 semester hours taken in any one department.

Social Sciences (6-9)

Students must earn from 6 to 9 semester hours in the social sciences area with no more than 6 semester hours taken in any one department.

 

Interdisciplinary Studies (3-6)

Students must earn from 3 to 6 semester hours from the following courses.

  • TECH 294. Technology and Cultural Relevance - Tech Department majors may only take this course as a departmental elective if allowed, and not to fulfill the interdisciplinary requirement.
